Fodor's Pacific Northwest

Fodor's Pacific Northwest
In Seattle, Mt. Rainier enchants commuters stuck in traffic; in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Coast Range juts out over downtown; and in Portland, 5,000 acres of forestland north of the city center harbor deer, elk, and the odd bear and cougar. However you enjoy the landscape of the Pacific Northwest -whether you raft a river, kayak along the coast, ski or snowboard the mountain slopes, or hike to the top of a butte -you are sure to have a great trip. Our resident writers have found the best hotels, restaurants, attractions and activities to make your trip to the Pacific Northwest both memorable and worthwhile. Before you leave for your trip to this majestic region, be sure to pack your Fodor's guide to ensure you don't miss a thing. The San Francisco Chronicle sums it up best - "Fodor's guides are saturated with information.

The Origins of a Pacific Coast Chiefdom: The Chumash of the Channel Islands by Jeanne E. Arnold,
A new series of reprints, monographs, and edited volumes on the anthropology and prehistory of Pacific North America. The series will include works from the coastal and riverine regions of Alaska to California.

West Coast of the United States - In general, the term "West Coast" is a nickname for the coastal states of the Western United States, comprising California, Oregon and Washington, and sometimes Alaska and Hawaii (see Pacific States). Occasionally Nevada, not a coastal state, is included as a West Coast state since it is in close proximity.

Pacific Northwest - The Pacific Northwest (PNW) in its broadest definition is an area that includes part of the west coast of United States and Canada, including southern Alaska, all of British Columbia, Washington state, Oregon and Northern California. Its US boundaries are imprecise: the Pacific coast states of Washington and Oregon are always included, with Northern California and the Idaho Panhandle a common addition, although extreme eastern Oregon near Boise may be excluded because of the Rocky Mountain influence.

Gold Coast (Connecticut) - The Gold Coast is a region of the state of Connecticut roughly contiguous with the boundaries of Fairfield County; it derives its regional nickname from Fairfield County being ranked as one of the wealthiest counties in the United States and being the headquarters to most of the hedge funds in the country. Much of its economy and population are dependent on the region's close proximity to New York City.

North Coast, New South Wales - The North Coast refers to the region adjoining the Pacific Ocean in the north-eastern part of the State of New South Wales, Australia.
